Use the same quality fittings as our design team

The quality of the light fitting plays a crucial role in the success of any lighting design. With so many downlight and accent LED fittings available on the market, quality can vary significantly. Here, we share a selection of the fittings our design team consistently chooses across projects, from downlights and accent LEDs to decorative pendants, wall lights, and chandeliers. We also offer insight into how to thoughtfully integrate these pieces into your lighting scheme.

Uplights

Uplights are a versatile way to add both functional and decorative light. They work beautifully indoors and out, highlighting textured surfaces like stone walls or architectural details. In this project, we used the LD56 uplight beneath the staircase to draw focus to the hall and illuminate a striking bronze sculpture.

The range includes multiple bezel sizes and outputs, making it easy to tailor uplights to any application - from washing arched doorways and wall recesses to lighting trees in the garden. All the fittings share the same LED technology, so mixing bezel diameters and outputs doesn’t compromise the overall look or feel of the scheme.

Finishes range from marine-grade stainless steel to solid bronze, offering both aesthetic flexibility and durability for exterior use.

Each uplight operates via a remote constant current driver, capable of powering multiple fittings. For exterior installations, we offer factory-fitted extended leads to simplify wiring and avoid external waterproof connections. Always house driver connections in a dry, IP-rated enclosure for protection.

Downlights

Downlights are the backbone of most lighting schemes. To achieve great results, we focus on using the best technology, output, and colour rendering. The downlights we specify are the ones we trust and form the core of every project we work on.

Our standard choice is the Origin range, offering exceptional colour rendering - CRI 98 and R9 99. Accurate red rendering is crucial for true-to-life colours, especially for whites and skin tones. If you want your interiors to look authentic and vibrant, the Origin range is essential.

You can select from a variety of colour temperatures and lens options, plus drivers with dimming protocols tailored to your project. Unusually, Origin downlights can dim without a control system when paired with the recommended mains dimmable driver and Quad rotary dimmer, both available to add when purchasing.

With optional higher IP ratings for bathrooms and showers, plus fire protection options, you can maintain consistent style and quality throughout your project.

Stair case and step lighting

Recessed wall lights integrate seamlessly into walls or staircases to illuminate stair treads effectively. Our range includes multiple sizes, finishes, and both round and square profiles, ensuring compatibility with diverse design requirements.

You can light from one side, wash across each step, alternate steps, or stagger lighting from side to side where fixing points allow.

Beam angles range from wide, soft washes to narrow, focused beams ideal for long, narrow treads. Some fittings include fixed-angle optics to direct light precisely down and across each tread. Optional glare shields reduce direct view of the light source, perfect for open staircases or eye-level installs. The LD42 supports all these options.

Recessed wall lights are equally suited for exterior use, with appropriate IP ratings, providing functional illumination for patio and garden steps. Not only does this add safety but creates striking landscape features, making dark winter nights feel welcoming.

Linear lighting

To achieve project-perfect linear lighting, we offer the same high-quality linear our designers use - now available in kit form. Supplying Origin Linear as a kit lets you cut lengths on site without sacrificing light quality or technology, with an excellent 98 CRI colour rendering as standard.

Choose from four profiles to suit your needs, including the shallow recessed Ori and the angled Vara, perfect for under-cabinet lighting. All profiles and kits come with an IP54 rating as standard.

Linear LEDs add practical task lighting in kitchens - whether recessed into joinery or hidden behind downstands. The slim Ori profile can also be surface mounted using clips supplied in the kit, delivering focused light exactly where you need it on the worktop.

Display cabinets and shelving units benefit from quality linear lighting, highlighting objects and contributing to the overall room lighting while creating a focal point.

For ambient lighting, linear can be installed in coves or ledges, washing light up onto the ceiling and filling the room with a soft glow. This approach also works well for creating a subtle halo effect around a room’s perimeter.

Lighting shelves, alcoves and niches

Small, discreet downlights and uplights create defined pools of light in alcoves or niches, offering an alternative to continuous linear lighting. They’re perfect for highlighting trinkets or sculptures without washing the entire shelf.

Directional mini downlights focus light precisely on the subject, making them ideal for showcasing sculptures and vases.

Using an IP-rated uplight as a downlight for example the LD43 in a tiled shower niche is a smart solution. Rated for wet environments, it can be mounted at the top to shine down, leaving space for toiletries while adding functional light.

The shallow depth of these fittings makes them easy to recess into joinery and shelving.

Surface mounted spot lights

Surface mounted spotlights provide a versatile design solution, delivering the same premium LED quality, rich colour rendering, and lens options as our downlights. This allows for a harmonious blend of lighting styles without compromising on performance or aesthetic.

Perfect for vaulted ceilings where recessing downlights isn’t possible, these spots can be directed upwards to create ambient ceiling washes or downwards to accentuate key areas. Exposed beams become natural mounting points, with finishes like bronze seamlessly integrating with wood tones for a cohesive look.

In kitchens, wall-mounted surface spots offer precise task lighting, enhancing worktop areas while adding visual interest. They also work beautifully on split-level spaces such as mezzanine landings, illuminating areas beneath balconies with subtle sophistication.

Our range of mounting options includes discreet trimless plaster-in bases alongside elegant Cloud and Cloud Mini Pendants, ideal for kitchen islands where functional light meets sculptural form in stunning metal finishes.

External lighting

Lighting external spaces and gardens is a fantastic way to extend your interior lighting scheme outdoors, creating a seamless connection between inside and out. Exterior lighting goes beyond practicality, it offers creative opportunities to showcase architectural details and landscape features, making them stand out year-round, not just in summer.

There are countless ways to elevate your garden and outdoor design with light. Uplighting stone walls or planters accentuates their texture and form while adding functional illumination. Low-glare recessed wall lights wash steps and patios with gentle light, balancing safety with style. Adjustable spike spots work perfectly for highlighting flower beds, planters, or trees along driveways. Mini adjustable surface spots allow precise, focused lighting for sculptures and focal points. Decorative wall lanterns warmly welcome guests at entrance doors, adding charm and character.

Outdoor structures like gazebos and kitchen/BBQ areas are increasingly popular, and well-considered lighting enhances these spaces for cosy summer evenings. Uplighting structural posts creates striking vertical accents, while IP65 rated downlights and wall lights provide reliable, practical task lighting for cooking and preparation.

Ensuring the correct IP-rated connections is essential for durability and safety in external environments. To simplify installation, we offer factory fitted extended leads on most fittings, reducing the need for on-site cable joints. However, it’s important that all connections at the driver end are made in a dry, protected environment, such as an IP-rated driver enclosure.

Picture Lights

Some of our projects begin with a conversation about how best to light an art collection. Here, we present two elegant options: a sleek picture light arm featuring a neat, adjustable single-chip LED head, and a more traditional bar-style picture light with integral 24V LEDs, available in multiple lengths.

Both options come in a variety of finishes and LED colour temperatures. The LED spot also offers selectable lens angles, allowing precise control over the beam spread.

We believe each artwork deserves individually tailored light levels rather than being controlled solely by the room’s overall dimming settings. To achieve this, we provide a driver and potentiometer combination, enabling the perfect light level to be set for each piece. The picture lights then switch on and off as part of the broader room scene, always returning to the desired illumination level.

At Brilliant Lighting, we are passionate about showcasing artwork through light. We’re always happy to discuss your collection and help find the ideal lighting solution.

Decorative fittings

Decorative fittings are an opportunity to add personality and detail to a space, complementing your architectural and technical lighting. From understated classics to striking contemporary designs, there’s something for every interior style.

Pendants are a favourite for creating a design statement, particularly when grouped above kitchen islands or breakfast bars where style meets function. Swing-arm wall lights work brilliantly beside the bed, freeing up table space and adding flexibility for reading. For those who prefer a cleaner look, integrated LED reading lights or slim bathroom wall lights provide discreet, practical illumination.

Sculptural wall lights add another layer of design interest, bringing a touch of art to your interiors. Outdoors, traditional lanterns create a sense of heritage and welcome, while modern up/down lights suit minimalist schemes.

When it comes to lamps, we recommend matching your lamp colour temperature to your wider scheme. And for glass pendants, a filament lamp adds a touch of vintage-inspired style.
